"Very good standard at Wigan Infirmary"

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Accident and emergency Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / General surgery Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Paediatrics

(as the patient),

I was admitted to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary by my GP with suspected appendicitis, as a result I was taken to the accident and emergency department. I was seen within 30 mins maximum at put at ease through the whole process and within an hour of admission was seen by the surgical team and place in rainbow ward ( for u 16's).

My immediate impression was how at ease you are made to feel, they have specific staff who are there just to talk you and explain everything and offer daily activities if you're up to it. The nursing staff where again the same offering to help how they could and all being friendly and approachable.

After 3 days and 2 nights I was allowed to go home without the need for surgery with a diagnosis of chronic appendicitis. I feel overall the wards and hospitals where of a very good standard being well maintained and cleaned a few times daily.

The staff from play specialists, nurses, pharmacists, trainee doctors and consultants where all friendly and treated you in a professional manner whilst still being approachable and explaining everything in clear detail.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience following your admission through the A&E Department and your care on Rainbow ward. It is very pleasing to note that your patient journey was such a positive experience. In particular your comments regarding the staff on Rainbow Ward who were able to put you at your ease. It is important that the staff are able to support patients and ensure that anxiety is kept at a minimum and your comments have confirmed that this is something that they do well.

Kind regards
