"Maternity Unit"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as the patient),

I was in hospital for the birth of my baby by caesarian section. I am a coeliac and was provided with one hot meal gluten free during my 2 and a 1/2 day stay the hospital was pre warned off this the week before at my day assessment appointment. The rest of my meals consisted of a salad, one breakfast was grapes which i had brought in by my husband the second breakfast was rice crispies. The senior dr did not use the hand gel at my bedside before examining my baby, One trainee dr used the hand gel but sneezed into the corner of the room and did not use a tissue. The other trainee did not use the hand gel either. My drawer sheet and sanitary towels were changed by my mum as there were not enough staff on duty. On my first night stay there was one midwife and one care assistant on duty for all 15 of the mothers. There was blood on the bathroom floor the first day i got there and the day i left the blood was still on the bathroom floor. Based on my experiences, i think a lack of staff is appalling.
