"Poor management of my child at Children A/E"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I am a medical professional with 18 years of work experience. My wife is also medic. I had a bitter experience at RDH children A/E. This has left me and my family with psychological trauma. I start with good things about Children A/E: Nursing staff showed good communication skills, caring & empathetic attitude, good nursing skills Waiting area: OK, enough toys for kids to play Reception staff: good Bad: -Resources: My son had accidental burn so asked special pillow to make him comfortable , but it was not available in A/E. -Consultant Child Specialist: Treated my son in very insensitive way, delayed basic treatment by several hours, failed to opt child centred approach, failed to maintain dignity of my child, broke bad new in front of my 7 yr old child in very very insensitive and premature way, left my son with psychological trauma, interrupted my wife during consultation and showed no empathy towards my wife when she was crying. So overall ,I would not like any parent or child to go through this experience again. I have lodged formal complaint via PALS. -Disheartened Parent

Many thanks for providing us with your feedback following your son and family's recent visit to our Childrens Emergency Department (CED). We were extremely sorry to hear of your traumatic experience and certainly hope that your formal complaint lodged via our PALS & Complaints team results in a satisfactory outcome for you all. Patient feedback, whether negative or positive is extremely important to us as this gives us the opportunity to share good practice, learn lessons and implement changes wherever we can to improve the care and services we provide to our patients in the future. Therefore, once again, many thanks for taking the time to provide us with your comments and may we also take this opportunity to wish your son and indeed all your family our very best wishes. Kind regards from the Patient Experience Team for Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
