"Smoking"

About: The Royal Liverpool University Hospital

My Nan is having treatment as we speak and I am constantly visiting the hospital with my wife and young boy. The level of care and support my Nan has received since Friday has been second to none. (excellent), a special thank you to the surgeon who saved my Nan's life. I must stress that the smoking outside the doors of the hospital is disgusting and disrespectful to those doctor's and nurses trying to save lives. The smell of smoke on the ground floor is overwhelming especially when you come from other floors! Their must be a total ban on smoking on the grounds of the hospital, especially the entrance.

Thank you for your comments. We are very pleased to hear that your Nan is receiving excellent care and treatment and wish her all the best for a speedy recovery. We completely agree with your comments about smoking outside our hospitals and we are engaged in a long term campaign to ensure our hospitals are entirely smoke free sites. We acknowledge we have a long way to go to change people's behaviour, but we are determined that this will succeed. As part of this campaign, we will be offering more nicotine replacement support for patients and we are writing to the local council to ask for their support for a by-law to ban smoking from hospital sites. We welcome your support with these measures.
