"Felt abandoned at A&E"

About: New Cross Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I burnt my throat and had chest pains could not eat or drink from Monday to Saturday. I was like forcing bit of water to go down and then tummy ache so bad.

I went to A&E. I was told and ENT doctor will be with me shortly. I waited for 4 hours and a doctor came and said they would be back, and they has sent someone up stairs to get a camera to check my throat. Ok then fine. I waited for a further 2 hours no one came. The doctor dould see me and I could see they were attending other patients. Eventually, some of the doctors were actually wondering why l was not being checked.

A nurse came and said she would take me to a treatment room upstairs. She left me there and l waited for 3 hours in that treatment room. No one came until l started crying and crying then a new doctor came to apologise. The doctor said there was a confusion about which doctor should come and check me. I had eaten nothing all day and l told them, but they ignored me and I felt abandoned.

I began to think that maybe because l was not born in this country that's why they were treating me so badly. It didn't take the doctor even 10 minutes to check the back of my throat, which was swollen very inflamed. But l had waited for more than 8 hours for an ENT doctor to check my throat.

I feel that I was neglected and abandoned. Will never ever come to or refer anyone to New Cross hospital. If people have no passion in their work, no a passion to help and treat people the same, they should not be doctors. I have worked in other hospitals, but have never seen anything like this before.
