What I liked
My 16 year old daughter was referred to A and E with suspected appendicitis. She was seen very soon after arrival and tests were carried out.Everything was explained to her about the tests in question. She was examined by two different doctors, one of whom made the decision to send her for surgery and admitted to ward two.The ward was clean and welcoming and because she was in a bay with only six beds, the experience wasn't too overwhelming for her.The staff were lovely and kept us informed as to what was happening. The thing that really impressed me was that staff didn't object to her keeping the curtains around her bed drawn if she wanted privacy and peace as I remember a stay at another hospital some years back, when I wasn't allowed to draw them.
What could be improved
The only improvement I can think of is that when someone is discharged after an appendectomy, they be given a leaflet with info about pain management, wound care ,bowel function etc and warning signs of potential problems.
Anything else?
My daughter's overall stay was made as easy as possible and I would like to thank the staff of A and E and ward two, particularly the lovely nurse on nights who went down to theatre with her and helped keep her calm.
