"The staff were very understanding ..."

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The staff were very understanding & kind.

What could be improved

My appointment at the xray department for breast cancer was made unnecessarily stressful because I couldn't park. I arrived 20 mins early & after 35 minutes still couldn't park so I rang the xray department in tears because I thought I would have to cancel my appointment. They assured me I could arrive as late as I wanted because the treatment was very important. I finally found a parking space after 50 minutes of circling the grounds. I travelled from Kidderminster so couldn't catch a local bus. Surely when building a brand new hospital in an out of town position it is logical to provide plenty of parking spaces, so why wasn't it done. I would not recommend the hospital to anyone because of the parking. To add insult to injury visitors are charged for this stressful experience

Response from Worcestershire Royal Hospital

On behalf of the Trust I would like to apologise to this patient - we are aware of the pressure on parking at Worcestershire Royal Hospital at busy times, and the stress it can cause for patients, visitors and staff.

Since the hospital opened in 2002 we have invested a significant amount in extending the car parks and doubled the number of spaces available. We started with around 600 spaces (the most that local planners would allow) but have since been given the go-ahead for a number of expansions which mean we now have around 1300 spaces. Each car park expansion has achieved a temporary respite, but within a very short time we see the pressures increasing again.

We are looking at a number of ways in which the congestion on the site at peak times might be eased.
