"Surgical Day Care Unit"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I had my gallbladder removed yesterday and was extremely nervous about the proceedure. On arrival to the Surgical Day Care Unit, the staff immediately put me at ease, showed me to my bed and explained what to expect. They were very reassuring. When I arrived at the theatre, the staff here were equally reassuring and they done a great job of taking my mind of the operation. The anesthetic team kept chatting to me and before I knew it i was in the recovery ward! I can't thank all the staff who took care of me enough. Their care and consideration was first class- always asking how I was for pain relief, and offering cups of tea, toast and biscuits. I felt very safe, comfortable and relaxed. Thankyou so much to you all xx

Dear Shauna, Thank - you! This is such a lovely description of high quality surgical care. Thank you also for acknowledging the part that the whole team played in making you feel safe, comfortable and relaxed. When the environment is so unfamiliar and the outcome is as yet unknown, we appreciate that patients can arrive in hospital feeling very frightened. I am so glad that the team did everything they could to firstly recognise that you were feeling nervous and then respond with kindness, compassion and reassurance. We know that it's that important balance of first class care and kind consideration that gives our patients confidence that they are in the right place. The team will be really chuffed to hear how they got this exactly right for you. I hope everything is going as well as it should be at home and that your pain is manageable. Best wishes, Annie
