When my first baby was born I had difficulty in breast feeding him; he just didn't seem interested and I was concerned he wasn't receiving the sustenance he needed. I felt very nervous about breast feeding and didn't know what to do.
Within 24 hours I was assigned a breast feeding councillor at East Surrey hospital and she immediately made me feel safe and secure and soothed my worries. She was bright, bubbly and friendly as well as knowledgeable and experienced, and I immediately felt confident that she could help me.
She stayed with me and my baby, chatting and making us feel relaxed until we got the hang of breastfeeding. When we went home she contacted me to check we were getting on OK and gave me her mobile number so I could get in touch if I needed more advice and support.
My baby is now 10 months old and I have been in touch with her quite frequently over the months asking for advice. Every time I thought I would have to give up breast feeding, she gave me advice and I was able to carry on. She always responded to my messages instantly and always made me feel relaxed. I think this was above and beyond the call of duty and I am so grateful to her.
My baby and I are very lucky to have met her!
"Amazing support given by breast feeding councillor"
