"Completely disorganised"

About: Lister Hospital

My son was admitted to children's A and E with all the symptoms of meningitis. He stayed overnight in A and E and whilst there I have to say staff were great. The prognosis seemed to be infection but not sure what. My son was discharged into the care of Bramble Day Clinic. The staff basically just kicked us out of A and E with no paperwork and when we arrived at Bramble later in the day no one there knew why we were there or what to do. After a few phone calls a lovely nurse gave my son his intravenous antibiotics and also bandaged my sons cannula as no one on a and e had bothered to do that. After 4 days of intravenous drugs my son then had seven days of oral antibiotics. Again no discharge notes but we were told that the blood cultures had come back negative. So we waited for notes to arrive with my GP. In the meantime my daughters boyfriend went down with the same thing. He was in adult A&E overnight and kept in isolation both in A&E and the ward. So many times he rang the nurses buzzer for help only to be ignored. At one point he rang my daughter in tears as he was desperate to go to the toilet and no one would help him. My daughters college decided that if there was any whiff of meningitis they did not want my daughter at college. They would only accept a doctors note saying it was not meningitis. The doctor would write no such note as he had no discharge notes from Lister. It has taken us four weeks to get a discharge letter from Lister and my sons original notes have been lost and the letter therefore says fever. How can a fever require so many antibiotics? And my daughter has missed four weeks off college courtesy of Lister. I sent PALS two e mails and made two phone calls. They did their best to help. I have made a formal complaint and received no reply. It's just not acceptable
