"husband asked to come & stay overnight then left..."

About: Leeds General Infirmary

My husband is on dialysis & is having vascular problems. He was asked to come in, straight from dialysis in huddersfield, via ambulance, to be assessed , stay overnight, hence he has his pyjamas etc, to be left in the waiting room for over one & a half hours with no communication,no bed, no nothing. When I rang the staff nurse told me he was only there for assessment & not to stay, then why did the consultant ring our house & tell me he wanted him in immediately after his dialysis & he was to stay overnight & the assessment was for the following day? They did the same to him at st james the week before. These are very poorly people who have very little if any strength after dialysing yet are left in a waiting room when normally my husband gets home & literally 'crawls' into bed & is there for hours. We are both utterly disgusted with both these hospitals, its a disgrace.

Dear Anonymous The experience you describe is not acceptable and must have been very distressing for both you and your husband. I have forwarded your comments to the Matron concerned so that she can look into the issues you have raised. If you would like to discuss this in more detail please contact the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0113 2067168 or email patient.relations@leedsth.nhs.uk With kind regards Rosie Senior Nurse Patient Experience
