I have just left my job as a qualified nurse, as I feel I am unable to provide safe care, never mind decent, quality care for my patients. I have seen some horrific examples of sub-standard care through-out various hospitals in Cardiff and the Vale. In my opinion the majority of these examples are the result of very poor staffing levels and lack of supervision. After speaking to friends who nurse in other areas of the UK, this problem is not unique to Cardiff but a nationwide issue.
I can only apologise on behalf of caring nurses through-out the NHS to all patients have received sub-standard care when in hospital. Since working as a nurse and seeing what really happens in hospital, I dread the day when myself or a close relative ends up in one. My view is that if the NHS spent less time on policies and targets and more money on adequately staffing wards, less patients would die unnecessarily! I so wish I could have more time and resources to do a proper job - a job, when fully supported, I truly loved.
