"lack of communiccation"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

After complaining about the lack of contact about my condition I was finally admitted on the 16th June 2014 to Queens neurology Sahara ward A. The staff on the ward were fantastic during the 4-days I was in the hospital at which time I had a lumbar punch and a course of Steroids. at the end of my stay I was told I would be asked back for a special eye test. and my results would be with me between 3 to 6-weeks. I eventually attended my eye test on the 23rd August at which time I had no other results. A letter was sent to my doctor with the eye test results which I phoned my doctor to explain the terminology. the letter basically stated " as we thought this patient has what we thought they had". I have enquired on multiple occasions what the results mean and constantly get told we will call you tomorrow to explain. On every occasion I have received no phone call. I have been told they are very busy, on ward visits on holiday and they will call back tomorrow. They have never called. My condition is steadily getting worse and I am struggling to walk. I contacted my doctor who called the neurology department on the 29th September and my doctor was told we will call you tomorrow, and true to form they did not call. I need to know what is going to happen in respect of the treatment of my condition. Currently my work and general life is being affected and is deteriorating rapidly. A person who was in the next bed to me has been diagnosed with motor neurons disease and has been given a limited time to live; our symptoms were very similar so you can surely understand I am very worried. The overall lack of contact is ridiculous and the contact in the department is a joke. She constantly sys we will contact you tomorrow only to ignore you until you call back where the same response is said "we will call you tomorrow". it is either the secretary or the consultant that is ignoring any request for details. Please can you help so I can start treatment or prepare myself for the rets of my life.

Thank you for leaving your feedback. I’m pleased that when you visited our Neurology department you found our staff to be fantastic. I am, however, sorry that you have not received a return phone call to advise you about your condition. For me to be able to investigate this for you, I will need you to give me more information. Please contact me via our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk. Yours sincerely, Stephen Burgess Medical Director
