"Car Parking charges"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus

(as the patient),

Dear Sirs. I must say, it does seem at the very least, outrageously mercenary to charge car parking to any degree for patients and visitors of any description to our hospitals. I just wonder what kind of mentality could imagine it to be morally justifiable for the administrators of this health authority to impose upon people in desperate need such a tax.

It's not as if patients and visitors are likely to queuing up to visit for pleasure. I have no idea what type of revenue these charges must bring in, but I am absolutely certain it will be substantial as I regularly see full car parks all day long. Why is it that some authorities do NOT levy a charge at all? Why is it that OUR authority have been charging £4 for the first 2hrs?

I trust my comments will be logged and replied to. I do feel this issue needs to be challenged in a much bigger way than my comments here. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Faithfully.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feelings about our parking charges. In response to feedback from patients, visitors and staff we are reducing our charges from 1 November, recognising that our price for the 0-1 hour tariff was out of step with other hospitals. We announced the reduced charges a few weeks ago. We are introducing a free 15 minutes for those dropping off patients or relatives and a £2 charge for 16 minutes - 1 hour parking, thereby halving the current tariff.

This feedback was originally posted in September 2014 via the Patient Opinion website. There is presently a technical problem with the NHS Choices website. This means a back log of comments are being pulled from the Patient Opinion website later than usual. We have escalated our concerns to NHS Choices, who have assured us that their team are working to resolve the problem. We responded to this post in September 2014. This issue has since been investigated and fully resolved.
