"Amazing breast cancer care at St Michael's in Hayle"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske) / Breast surgery St Michael's Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I'm a 43 year old single mum and in December 2008 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My initial diagnosis was made at the Mermaid Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

From that moment everything happened so quickly that my feet didn't touch the ground. I didn't have time to be scared, but every single health professional I came into contact with had all the time in the world to answer all my questions, ensure my treatment was to the highest standards and to make the whole experience as stress-free as possible.

I had a mastectomy and reconstruction in January at Treliske hospital, and transferred to St Michael's Hospital in Hayle. This hospital was spotlessly clean, wards consisted of smaller bays allowing privacy, and every single member of staff, from porters to consultants, nurses to cleaners, were nothing short of absolute and total professionals, caring, friendly and wonderful.

I used to have a fear of hospitals which has now been completely eradicated because of my stay at St Michael's. I felt as though I was recieving private health care at the hands of friends. My prognosis was excellent and I am well on the road to recovery.

St Michael's is an essential part of our community and delivers an enviable service. In my eyes it is an NHS flagship and I just want to say thank you!
