"The nurse"

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

I am not sure if this is the correct place to praise an individual member of staff but I do hope our comments can be passed to the person who nursed my father on Ward 5 on 24 and 25th August. We understand this was a "bank nurse" and therefore may not be working on Ward 5 or I would have written directly to the ward about her. My father was at the end of his life when they were nursing him. She was so kind and thoughtful and not only treated my Dad with the utmost respect but she also cared for all the other patients on the ward too. Having sat with Dad all day I was able to watch her work and she never stopped working and helping the patients not only medically but meeting their personal needs too. I left my Dad in the evening and unfortunately he passed away the next morning. I was so sorry that I was not there to be with him, however when my husband and I arrived at the ward to collect his things, the nurse was there and we discovered she had been with Dad when he died. I was so pleased such a caring nurse was with him in his final moments. She was able to tell us how quietly Dad had died and how she had cared for him. She is an truly inspirational professional and we will never forget her. Could you please pass on my comments to her and if there is any nominations etc. please let me know as I would love her professionalism to be recognised?

Dear Mrs Gaffiney Thank you for sharing your positive comments regarding the care you observed that was provided to your late father and other patients on Ward 5 at Queen’s Hospital Burton in August 2014. We will ensure your feedback is passed to the Senior Sister to forward to the Bank Agency. We are very glad to learn at this very sad and difficult time this member of the ward team was able to offer sensitive and compassionate care and appreciate that it would have been of great comfort to know this nurse with your father when he passed away. Please accept our condolences at this sad time and once again thank you for taking the time to tell us about this positive experience. Kind regards PALS team.
