"Great consultant but poor appointments system in Bolton"

I was sent to Bolton Neuro ICATs service by my GP in sept 2008. I booked my first appointment via the choose and book service and was intially seen very quickly - my first appointment was at the end of sept 2008.

My neurologist advised that i would need an MRI scan and would be seen again in early Jan 2009. By Feb I had still not received either my scan appointment or my neurology appointment. I rang the ICATS service and received an appointment by letter for early March 2009.

When i arrived i was told i had the wrong day, even though the letter stated that day, and a new appointment was made for the end of March. I then received a letter changing it to a week sooner. The letter though was for spinal ICATS sevice in Crewe and I am neuro ICATS in Bolton.

I rang and was told that the wrong letter had been sent and it was meant to be Bolton not Crewe. I saw the consultant and he was quite dismayed that 7 months on i have still not had my MRI scan.

For all the problems with appointments the service received by Dr P Cooper and his team has been wonderful.

This service is provided jointly by NHS Bolton (the Primary Care Trust) and Salford Royal Hospital. We are sorry that you had to wait a longer time for your appointment than was anticipated. The reason for this was an administration error - this led to a delay in confirming the appointment and the wrong information being sent. We have made sure that the staff concerned are aware of this isolated issue and they send their apologies for the inconvenience caused.
