About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary

I had a minor op on the 8th September and all my care was provided by the staff on SAL. The staff were great and I really felt secure and safe. I was well looked after by staff nurse and 2 AP's who kept me well informed about everything that was going to happened right for the beginning. I was made to feel comfortable at all times and was given enough time to recover and be able to go home the same day. Before I left I was given pain relief to take home I didn't have to wait at the pharmacy and was given extras dressing for my wound. I was talked through everything I needed to know and told I could ring and ask anything once I was home. I was signposted well to other services if I needed them. Additionally the consultant who did my op has done a fantastic job and the wound has healed great. The scar is not that big and is very neat. Once I was home I got a follow up call from a staff nurse on the ward to ensure I was ok and to see how the wound was. I thought this was a lovely touch and I wasn't just another patient. I was well supported by all staff during my time in hospital. I would recommend SAL and Wigan hospital to anyone going in for a similar op to what I had.

Response from Susan Heighway, Patient Relations / PALS Manager , Patient Relations / PALS, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you very much for your kind comments following your procedure on SAL at Wigan Hospital. We do appreciate it when someone takes the time to let us have their comments and I know that the Division of Surgery will be very appreciative of the comments you have made. I will pass these to the Head of Nursing, General Manager and Medical Director for the Division of Surgery and ask that your posting is shared with staff, including those working in the pharmacy; I have no doubt that staff will be greatly encouraged by your feedback.
