"Appendicitis"

About: Pilgrim Hospital

I was admitted on the 26th June 2014, with abdominal pain. I first saw the out of hour's GP in A&E who then decided to admit me for further test's. I was admitted to EAU department , and I have to say the care was fantastic considering I was in a lot of uncomfortable pain the nurses were amazing and took immediate action to get me sorted out on a drip as i was dehydrated (very) . After I was seen by 2 doctor's , taken down for a X ray yet again the staff were brilliant an couldn't fault the service at all. Later on I met the clinical nurse director who was brilliant she was concerned I was still in a lot of pain so it was down for a CT scan, the results were back and I was told that I would meet the surgeon shortly. After a few hour's I met one of the surgeon's ,he went through my note's very thoroughly asking about symptons etc. Then I was informed it was my appendix ,there would be a bit of a wait as they were busy in Theatre I was informed that they would try laproscopic first if not it would be a open surgery, it was going to be at least a couple of hours before they could operate, then I met the anaesthetist who went through everything with me as this is the first time in 40 years of my life that I have been admitted to hospital, she was very proffessional and explained how I would be put to sleep etc. I was admitted to ward 5A , then taken down to theatre and met 2 of the technical nurses who were brilliant , and then taken through to be put to sleep. Then woke up in recovery met andy to say it had all gone well, taken back to the ward and slept through, the next morning i was sitting up in bed , had a follow up from andy to ensure I was ok etc. I met the consultant they are superb, very clear & understanding on my progress, I also met the surgeon who had performed my operation. the nurses were brilliant , they just didn't stop but always made sure that each and everyone of us on the ward was ok, . Special thanks to the tea lady for always having a smile in the morning. Thank you to the doctor and his team for looking after me & there determination to get me well and home. Also to the 2 clinical nurses as well for looking after me. They have all done a superb job , and I can not thank them enough. Thank you to all the Nurses etc, very happy with the care I received on ward 5A at Pilgrim
