"being placed on a respiratory ward for a GI..."

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

As a 42yr old female, the last place I expected to be was opposite an extremely poorly elderly lady and two 60 something yr old respiratory sufferers of lung disease. My complaint was gallstones! The psychological upset of witnessing people on death's door and seeing family pain was not appropriate. Being treated by a respiratory expert for a GI problem was not fun either, as they simply had no idea what to do, once a scan confirmed a gallbladder full of stones, I was discharged home, with a promise of an MRI scan in outpatients. For anyone suffering gallstone pain they will know it's akin to labour pain and to have a very arrogant junior Dr state that paracetamol must be tried first,...well I was fuming, and asked for a senior Dr who then prescribed morphine..But to cut short a long tale ,as someone who works for the trust, the care from nurses was excellent, but I simply should not have been on that ward, my problem may have been resolved if I was on a ward that specialised in my ailment. I would hope that if my family member got ill that they would come out of hospital better than they went in....we are people not just a number.

Dear Anonymous Many thanks for your feedback on your experience of care on our Respiratory ward, and thank-you for taking the time to do so. I will make sure your concerns are passed onto the team, could I ask if possible that you could let me know which ward you were admitted to? I am very sorry to hear that your recent experience with us wasn't what you expected, though pleased that you found the nursing care excellent. If you would like to talk through your visit to us with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the bits of your experience that made this such a poor visit for you we would really value this so that we can try to improve things for every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Or if you prefer you can discuss further any concerns you may have about our services with our Customer Relations team on 01254 733700 or complaints@elht.nhs.uk who can advise you of your options in raising these concerns further. Many thanks for taking the time to comment, and hope your MRI scan appointment comes through quickly for you and your gallstones resolved as soon as possible. Wendy Stobbs, Patient Experience Facilitator
