"D47-outstanding care"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

I was recently a patient on this ward which is a Neurology and Rehabilitation. I can not fault a single member of staff from the sister to the the cleaners they were all brilliant. I was in for 20 weeks and it was very difficult at times but the staff supported me emotionally as well as physically and were great at reassuring my family and in particular my 2 year old son. The ward was clean and tidy and well ran even though at times there was not nearly enough staff this was never allowed to be an issue. Every patient was treat with patience, dignity and respect. The staff were always around if you needed to talk to someone or required assistance. Me and my family can not fault them at all and i will be eternally grateful to them for the recovery they helped me make. The physiotherapists are great at giving you the tools to move forward and the nurses are excellent at encouraging you. When I was first back up on my feet the nurses were more than happy to walk me up and down the corridor and in fact encouraged it to help me build my strength up. There were times when I was in potentially embarrassing situations with procedures that had to be done and the staff put me at ease each time by making light of it. They accompanied me to other appointments and stayed with me to here the diagnosis and then talked to me about it afterwards. I was certainly treat like an individual and my privacy was always upheld. I truly believe if it wasn't for this ward I wouldn't have made such a good recovery they deserve the world on a plate. Thank you simply isn't enough! They need a lot of things such as a bigger ward, less beds to a bay due to the amount of equipment most patients need, a functioning day room which at present has to be used as a storage room, a 2nd shower as there is only 1 for the whole ward which makes it difficult on a morning for the staff. There is very little room for the patients belongings and there stored in wardrobes behind patients which are not accessible when you are not mobile. These are the faults on the ward but not faults with the ward the staff work very hard to make sure the patients have the best possible care...Thank you D41 for making my hospital admission as easy as possible i will be forever in your debt

Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences of the care you have received from the staff on Ward D41. I know hard the staff work to deliver the kind of care you describe and they will be absolutely delighted when they read your comments.
