I recently had a 10 day stay on ward 5 at Leighton Hospital. The care I received was excellent. I was under the care of the respiratory consultant. The consultant is an absolute gem in your hospital. Her compassion and care is obvious from the first moment you meet her. Her outstanding clinical skills brought me safely through a serious medical condition.The consultant explained my illness and treatment very thoroughly and on a level that was comprehensive yet easy to understand. She welcomed questions and would ask follow up questions to check my understanding of the situation. I always felt she gave me as much time and attention as I needed and never had the impression she was in a rush to get to the next patient. I unreservedly recommend the consultant to anyone and would only want to be treated by her if I have the health issue recur. I was very pleased with the care I received on ward 5. The staff were very attentive and caring. I rarely needed to use my call bell, mainly because staff were always very visible in the bay, but when I did they responded very quickly. My absolute thanks to the staff nurse and the ward manager for outstanding care. Even when I asked for my bed to be changed in the early hours of the morning due to my high temperature, there was never a grimace or evidence of displeasure. The staff were extremely obliging and accommodating. Their professionalism, clinical skills and genuine care for the patient combined to deliver a really first class service. I would have no worries if I needed to go back to Leighton Hospital, the standards are very high and the care excellent.
