"Lovely care for my great aunt in Dumfries & Galloway"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My great Aunt was recently admitted to the orthopaedic ward, (I think it was ward 16).

I am aware of the bad publicity that nurses get. People are very quick to complain about things that are done badly, but not as quick to praise the good things that are done.

My great aunt suffers from dementia and is in a care home. She recently broke her hip and required hospital admission to have it repaired. Due to the dementia she was extremely confused as she was in a new setting.

The care she received from the nurses on the ward was excellent. Due to her confusion she was quite hard to care for but the nurses were kind to her at all times, and spoke to her with a lovely manner.

It was clear that the ward was understaffed, but this was not the fault of the nurses on the ward and they did the best they could in difficult circimstances.

Thank You.
