"Poor standards of hygiene at Stepping Hill"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital

(as a relative),

My Dad was admitted to Stepping Hill Hospital, ward A15, with a massive pleural effusion. He was in hospital for 10 days. The nurses didn't answer many questions when asked, simply referred me to the doctors, who to be fair are too busy to be answering relatives questions. In terms of hygiene, my Dad was able to wash himself when given a bowl, but on one occasion, he didn't get a bowl despite myself and my sister asking nursing staff. I am a nurse myself so I know how busy the wards can get but I can always find time to provide basic care to my patients. My Dad was moved into a sideroom as he had diarrhoea, and the sideroom had ants!!

On the day he never got a wash, I asked the nurse who was looking after him for a bowl, then when my sister visited 5 hours later, she asked why he still hadn't been given a bowl and the nurse tried to blame it on the health care assistant. I feel it is the nurse's own responsibility to make sure their patients are receiving proper care.
