"Infection control concerns"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

(as the patient),

I have a long-standing chronic acute condition and I'm seriously immuno-suppressed. I was admitted to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital with infected wounds on my hands, on Mon 16th March and was being treated with high dose IV antibiotics. On Weds 18th March I was moved, late at night onto a ward that, it turned out, had been shut to admissions with an outbreak of the diarrhoea and vomiting superbug, Norovirus. There were posters on the doors warning visitors to stay away and the lady in the opposite bed was undergoing tests for early symptoms. Staff had set up one end of the ward as the contaminated area, with all the infected patients in 2 bays, but a ward is a ward and I wasn't going to wait around to catch it. It could kill me. I discharged myself at 1am. Even the Ward Sister told me she wasn't supposed to have an opinion but that I was right to go.
