My son was in the care of Lincoln County Hospital initially for 2 weeks after being admitted by our GP. My son was 3months old but as he was born 8 weeks prem he was still very small and very weak. He had stopped eating and was running a fever. Initially the care he recieved was wonderful, he was priority and obs were checked every 15mins and he was seen reguarlaly by nurses and doctors. It was thought he had meningitus so he was started on anitbiotics and cared for to the highest level. This stopped once the results came back saying he didnt. He still wouldnt feed so wasnt allowed home. The nurses kept trying to force feed him which kept making him sick. They put a tube down his nose to feed him, which also kept making him sick. After one week with not food they decided only then to put him on a dip. The desicion was made by a bank nurse who we never saw again. He was left on a drip for 3 days without it being checked properly and the canula in his arm started to leak as it was not into his vein but under his skin. His hand was terribly bruised and he had gone approx 24hrs with the fluid just going into his skin and not into his vein. I questioned if he had developed an intolerance to milk which was dismissed straight away. All in this time his room had not been cleaned once! Eventually I got so cross I said I was to dischrge my son if he did not get the treatment he needed and I was going to conplain to the head of the trust, with photo evidence that I had taken, I was taken seriously. My sons milk was changed and within 2 days he was discharged seemingly better....he wasnt but I took him to another hospital 45miles away where he is still being looked after as he has serious stomach problems, which were totally missed at Lincoln.
