About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My mother was on a ward for a week and I was totally dissatisfied with the care that she had. Point 1. The doctor didn' t make himself known to my mother (who is 90 years old) or myself. Point 2. I don't feel it is my place to make myself known to the doctor .It should be his place to introduce himself to patient and family. I didn't have anything like that. When he and the nurse came to my mothers bedside in the morning he asked her to breathe and show movement .There wasn't any introduction. When he finished he just pulled open the screen curtain and went to the next patient. Tell me do you think that is right to be treated in this way. I did have words with him and he did apologise .My argument is you shouldn't have to have this problem. I worked in the hospital for a number of years so I know about patient care. Point 3. I was looking at my mothers notes folder and there was a sticker on the top of one page (of a different patient) and another name on the other side of the page (not my mothers name) but the record had been commenced even although the names were wrong. I bought it to a nurses attention and she apologised and said she will see the day and night staff to rectify the situation . So it doesn't happen again. It shouldn't happen in the first place! with this sort of things happening I am not surprised that the hospital has been under special measures for over a year. It is not satisfactory. The hospital should be run up to a standard and not down to a price. It's peoples lives they are dealing with not objects. I have put A&E for the dept. because that comes closest to where she was.

Thank you for your feedback and for highlighting areas that we need to address - all your points are valid and we need to look into matters further. We would need to know the area your mother was treated in and a few other details to address the issues you raise. If you could contact the PALS team in the first instance, they will be able to identify the appropriate managers for us to raise your concerns with. You can email PALS on pals@medway.nhs.uk Thank you
