"Hip surgery"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

I have no issues with the staff who saw me before my surgery, or the surgeons themselves. I stayed on the orthopaedic ward for 3nights and 4 days, I could not wait to get out of there. My general experience regarding cleanliness was the hospital it's self seemed fine, however I lay with sick down me for an hour and lay on bloody sheets for over a day. I did report both these to staff, when I was sick the man got really annoyed, shouted at me that he'd already told me they were in handover and I'd have to wait. I kept asking about my leaking wound, on the sixth time that I asked I was told why didn't you say anything! This seamed to be a common issue with the staff, you would ask something or need something and were always told I'll be back in a minute or I'll send someone in a minute. Then you'd wait hours, ask multiple times and then treated like an inconvenience. I understand that staffing is meant to be an issue however I was positioned near the nurse station and they had plenty of time to chat, joke, celebrate staff birthdays, all while buzzers were going off.this was even noticed by visitors. Their are so many miss treatments and issues I had whilst I was recovering in treliske, I would put most of these down to a lack of caring for the patient, no consideration was given to what you were going through, when you can't move and are bed bound and insanely board, all it would take to make you comfortable would be a simple, how are you today? Communicate with the patient with realistic timescales I.e. It's likely to be a few hours, not in a minute. A minute is forever in hospital, if something's delayed just tell the patient, then they will buzz the nurses less and then they would be less angry. I may have to be readmitted to treliske shortly and am actually terrified of going back. I will give praise to the physios, they got more stuff done and chased things up and got answers. They were also friendly. If you are staying at treliske for treatment, take a fan, food, tissues, wet wipes, sanitiser.
