"Waiting times for phlebotomy at Dewsbury"

About: Dewsbury & District Hospital

(as the patient),

I have often wondered why their are such long waits for blood to be taken. I have waited for more than an hour today (and am still waiting - the click ticks on). There are dozens of patients in the waiting area waiting with a stoic attitude. It's marginally better than it used to be now we have numbered tickets like at a deli counter but there is a fierce black market going on in the waiting area too with people taking two tickets and trading them with friends.

I just wonder how many hours of people's time this area wastes? The people waiting have lives too.

I understand the difficulty in predicting demand but it's the same issue as 20 years ago. I was a complaints manager in an acute trust then too.

I wondered what the Trust had tried to do to make this better?

Dear AnneC

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate that waiting can be frustrating and apologise for this. As you say, it can be difficult to predict demand; the Trust has worked with Primary Care colleagues to provide the service in alternative settings and opening hours have been reviewed.

If you would like to provide your contact details to pals@midyorks.nhs.uk we will arrange for the Pathology Services Manager to liaise directly with you.
