"The only thing i like about this ..."

About: Arrowe Park Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The only thing i like about this hospital was when my mum left. She was rushed into Majors in A&E and had to wait over 3 hours to be seen by a doctor for a suspected heart attack.

She was put in a small, dull and some what unclean bay were it was impossible for a member of staff to walk past and be able to see her. Anything could of happened, she could of died and no one would of noticed until it was too late. Not one nurse or doctor came to see if she was alright whilst waiting to see the doctor.

When the doctor finally arrived his attitude was rather off-putting and made you feel that he wasn't bothered and just wanted to go home.

Not to mention the Major section in A&E was very busy with patients in the corridors on beds and resus was full.

There appeared to be total anarchy and this was in the MAJORS section. It was highly understaffed with only approximately 7 nurses and one doctor on duty.

I do appreciate there could have been a really bad situation that the staff were dealing with and in that case, more staff were needed to cover the less major but still urgent patients in the A&E Majors department.

On a more positive note the few nurses that i managed to speak to were very polite and caring and resus was the only section that seemed to have enough staff.

What could be improved

There needed to be a greater number of doctors and nurses in Majors to be able to deal with patients on a more one to one basis and for treatment to occur in a shorter space of time considering it was the Major part of A&E that had to help very serious problems.

Anything else?

All in all I think the hospital is a good one and I have been there before in an emergency and have had very good care delivered but more especially more numbers of doctors must be in the Majors section of A&E to be able to deliver high levels of emergency care very quickly.
