I thought I was having a severe attack of heartburn but after 2 hours, it became evident that it was something more serious and 111 was called 21:45 hrs. The advisor quickly realized that I was probably having a heart attack and called an ambulance; the paramedic and ambulance arrived within 10 minutes and quickly confirmed that I was having a heart attack. I was taken directly to the CCU where the team was waiting to operate. The procedure of locating the blockage, angioplasty and stenting was performed (it seemed to me) in very quick time. I was kept informed on what was happening and shown the before and after images of the heart blood vessels. I was on the ward by midnight. It was a first class efficient service from start to finish, I was very impressed, could not possibly ask for more. I was also very impressed with all the ward nursing staff who showed care, kindness and patience; my wife and I are greatly indebted to everyone in the CCU. I have nothing but praise for the CCU, which, judging from my brief experience is a great example of a well-run unit, an oasis in a NHS struggling to meet targets.
"Excellent CCU"
