"Care of a relative"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

My elderly cousin was admitted to your hospital following a fall and consequent hip fracture. As I do not live close by I did not visit but my brother was with her during the assessment and admission process and then visited following her operation and with her when she died on one of your wards. He said that throughout your expertise and care was excellent and was particularly impressed with the nurses who stayed with her prior to her operation when she was frightened. When she developed pneumonia following the operation again the care was appropriate and personal and she asked him particularly to thank the nurses concerned for their care and concern. She felt at ease with them. She died very peacefully. Thank you for the high standards that you are achieving when things in the NHS are difficult

Many thanks for your feedback on your experience of our care for your cousin and thank-you for taking the time to do so at what I am sure is a difficult time for you, your brother and wider family. I will make sure your appreciation is passed onto the team, and am very pleased to hear your lovely words about the care and compassion shown by our staff. Could I just ask whether it would be possible for you to contact me on my email below to let me know which ward your cousin was cared for on then I can direct your thanks to the staff concerned? Also if either you or your brother would like to talk through the care received with one of our Patient Experience team so we can understand the aspects of care that made such a positive impact we would really value this so that we can try to make it like this for every patient visiting our hospitals and services. You can either contact me (Wendy Stobbs) on 01254 734471 or email me on wendy.stobbs@elht.nhs.uk. Many thanks again for commenting and condolences on your loss Wendy Stobbs, Patient Experience Facilitator
