My son has complex learning needs and if he ever ends up in hospital without me I dread to think what would happen. So we always take him to a private hospital whenever we can because it just makes things so much easier for him. He is in a residential care home in Horley in Surrey. The NHS is marvellous when you get to a consultant but in order to get proper care we have private heath insurance. That way we can schedule a morning and see someone properly – otherwise it’s a nightmare and you often seem to see someone in the NHS who doesn’t really quite understand his needs. The nurses don’t understand learning disability and haven’t got the time to deal with it. If we do go to hospital in the NHS then it’s the Royal Surrey Hospital and the Nuffield for the private work.
