"Disappointing treatment in the early pregnancy..."

I came in at 2.20 on Thursday 18th September, told I was possibly miscarrying. I came in with my young son and friend who took us there at the last minute. My son (aged 3) must have smiled and said hello to the member of staff giving the scan 7/8 times with them just looking at him coldly and saying nothing. He wanted to hold my hand, the member of staff told me not to, saying it disrupted with the machine (clearly impossible, they were scanning my stomach, not my hand but I did as asked). My son got upset and I immediately asked my friend to take him out of the room so as not to be disruptive. The member of staff asked how old my son was. Thinking they were being polite I proudly said 3 and the member of staff just glared and said "he's clearly very difficult". The member of staff then asked "was there nobody else who could have taken him?", and then referred to my friend as my husband. The member of staff asked if I had any problems I needed answered and I said I was having very bad headaches and they said if I sat across someone else would give me and answer. I wasn't told it was a 4 hour wait, so I was sat for an hour, when I enquired at the desk they were shocked because they asked warned the member of staff when they added me to the queue, and the member of staff had told them I had no problem waiting that long. If told, I would not sit for 4 hours to ask about a headache. I saw my baby's heartbeat for the first time and it was ruined by a confusingly rude member of staff insulting my child and pointlessly sitting me in a room with a headache and sickness. Manners and kindness were afforded to them throughout, and in a position of care they should have reciprocated that. The people at the desk were apologetic and kind. It's such a shame that I let such a cold and rude person ruin what should have been a wonderful moment. It just worries me that this person is dealing with women in a very vulnerable state

You are absolutely right to raise these concerns, which we take very seriously. Would you mind emailing us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net so that we can ask you for some further questions that will help us identify the individual and take the matter further. Pregnancy is often a time of equal joy and worries, so it is really important that our staff support women to the best of their abilities. Our maternity team has an excellent reputation in these regards, but clearly not during your visit - which is why it needs to be addressed - we do hope that you will get in touch.
