Our youngest son aged 37 yrs suffers from Beckers Muscular Dystrophy and was referred to the Acute Medical Unit by his GP, suffering from stomach pain and shortness of breath.

He was admitted to Ward 24 and eventually diagnosed with Dilatory Cardio Myopophy and had been referred to Papworth Hospital for consideration of inclusion on a heart transplant programme.

Throughout his stay he was treated with dignity and kept informed one all that was happening. He is now on warfarin and his care continues through the warfarin clinic.

I have to say that the hospital cannot nor could not have done anymore to make his treatment, albeit life changing, comfortable.

I thank RBH staff for their care and consideration.

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your son’s recent visit to ward 24 and I apologise for the delay in responding. This was due to some difficulties we had connecting to the website.

It was gratifying to hear that throughout your son’s stay he was treated with dignity and kept informed about his treatment.

I am sure that waiting for a diagnosis can be a stressful and worrying time for the whole family and being given the right information at the right time can go a long way to relieving those anxieties.

I will pass on your comments to the ward sister to share with her team.

Once again thank you for your comment and I do hope that Papworth Hospital are able to continue treating your son until such time that a heart becomes available.
