I suffer from a condition called lymphoedema, which is a condition that stores fluid. In my case, this is in my legs. They swell extremly large making it hard to walk and decreases my mobility.
I have had lymphoedema for years and only just over this past year I have had help. There is not many people that can treat my condition and treatment is only generally available for cancer patients.
But I have found a nurse at Longhill health centre named Kevin Acaster, he is the only nurse i have found who can do lymphoedema compressions to the high standards he does.
With Kevin's help the size of my legs have started to decrease and this has increased my mobility slighty and made it more comfortable to sleep and deal with everyday chores. I attend Longhill health centre three times a week to visit Kevin to do my compression bandages.
Although i am greatful for the help i have found, i believe it is disgraceful that patients are left to suffer due to lack of facilities. And what is worse is that the NHS has nurses such as Kevin that are able to deliver great treatment for lymphoedema (Compression bandages). Their abilities are not recognised and are not put to use.
If there was a clinic for this i believe it would make a great difference to people all over. This condition happens to mainly women and it is disfiguring and i think this is one of women's great horrors in life - to have their body disfigured. I know from previous experienece people tend to stay indoors away from people staring and making comments. If there was a clinic people's quality of life would increase. I believe this is a choice everyone should have, but unfortunately at the moment to have this choice you have to be a cancer sufferer.
Finally i just want to say a great big thank you to all those, especially Kevin, for the help which has made such a difference.
Thank you : )
