"Things just get worse"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Not only did the incompetence of the Gastroenterologist cause a tear in the oesophagus, we now have to stay in this hell hole even longer. One minute my mum is being taken down for a CT scan that no one knew about and no sooner is she down there she's being brought back up as it was all a mistake. Now I know no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes, but this is people's lived and there's no room for error. She was supposed to be allowed to have fortisip as of this morning, so why is it I'm having to ask for it at 2pm?? She's now also allowed oral medication but not food as this might go through the hole in her throat, but of course large tablets won't?!! I've had it with this hospital, they seemed to be so concerned on the outside but really actions speak louder than words.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience at University Hospital, Coventry in September 2014. Firstly, I apologise for any shortfall in care, as the level you describe is not the level we expect in our hospitals. One of the main issue with your mum’s care appears to be communication between staff and departments, which led to her being taken for a scan that had not been arranged and not being given a Fortisip until later in the afternoon. Occurrences like this can easily be avoided through better communication, making your mum’s experience at our hospital a better one. The feedback you provide is helpful as it allows us to identify areas of concern so we can improve and ensure better care in the future. I would encourage you to discuss aspects of your care further so that we can learn from your experience and improve our services. Please contact the Trust’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0800 028 4203.
