"Totally wonderful experience from beginning to end"

As a working doctor I am hyper critical of our health service and expect the highest standards that I know it can deliver My recent experience as the mother of a small child who needed surgery in Derby was exceptional. From the booking of the outpatient appointment, the facilities and cleanliness of the childrens hospital, the total professionalism of every member of staff I met to the fantastic ward staff on Sunflower ward, I was overwhelmed by my experience. I would particularly like to mention the flexibility of the whole team and particularly the pre operative assessment team. They put both my 4 year old and myself at total ease and went the extra mile to ensure every question was answered thoroughly. The consultant and his excellent anaesthetic team and the ward nurses were professional to the point of perfection and cared for both myself and my child exceptionally. Of course things weren't 100% perfect, minor things went wrong but the way these were dealt with was second to none. I have worked at a lot of hospitals during my 20 years in the health service across the UK and it can honestly say Derby Children's hospital, particularly the ENT department and Sunflower ward, rank amongst the best. Thank you.

Our staff strive hard to provide all our patients, and their families, with a high standard of care and we were therefore very pleased to hear that you felt this aim had been achieved on this occasion.
