"brilliant,dignified care"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

My Grandad wasadmitted to c5 in March 14' with pneumonia, unfortunately he did not recover from this infection and passed away on the ward. The whole time he was on the ward, before and after he became pallative he received excellent care, was always dignified and felt respected by staff. All of the staff on the ward, including the doctors, took the time to explain treatment and prognosis to myself and my family, we never felt unsure of what wasgoing on as we were conferred with at all times. One male csw in particular had a good relationship with my grandad, and just little things such as remebering his favourite drink made my grandads last few days more bearable for him and us as a family. On themorning my grandad passed away the staff were very caring and continued caring for him until he was taken off the ward by the porters. A band 7 nurse even came into my grandads sideroom to close his eyes and kiss him on the forehead. The staff comforted us all and hugged us as weleft the ward. the care from beginning to end was faltless. thankyou so much formaking such a difficult time that bit easier.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience of ward C5. Please let us first express our deepest condolences on the sad loss of your granddad, we appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback at what must still be a difficult time for you and your family. Maintaining excellent communication between staff, patients and their families is an extremely important factor in providing high quality care to patients. It is good to know that you felt fully informed about your granddad’s treatment and that our staff involved you in decisions about your grandad’s care. Making sure we treat our patients and their relatives with compassion and kindness is extremely important to us, especially when families experience a loss, so it is reassuring to hear that the staff on the ward made sure you were well looked after. We will pass your words of kindness and thanks to the team on Ward C5. I’m sure they will be comforted to receive such heartfelt feedback. Thank you.
