What I liked
Not much!,was admitted to the Day Case Unit on 03/03/09 for tennis elbow release. Will begin by saying that the operation that was performed seems to have gone well, and am very grateful to the surgeon/theatre staff involved. However pre and post op care leaves a lot to be desired!
I was admitted at 07.30 am on the day, shown through to a recliner chair(where I sat all day) and told precisely nothing until doctors started to circulate about an hour later.Although my pre-op literature clearly stated that I was to be having a `morning` operation the doctor told me that I was the last on his list and he worked up `till 7.00pm!I waited around all day with nothing to eat or drink and with little or no interest being shown by nursing staff.I was finally taken down to theatre at 5.50pm that evening,a total of 10 hrs 20 mins waiting time!By the time I had come round from the anaesthetic and had something to eat,it was a total of 22hrs since I last ate!
I asked to leave and was discharged at 08.30pm
On removing the wound dressing some 12 days later I discovered that I had not had keyhole surgery after all(I should hate to see the size of the key if I had!),but a conventional surgery incision which I was not told about before I left the hospital. Not A problem as such except that I am now going to look pretty stupid with my employer as I had advised that I would be back to work a fortnight after `keyhole` surgery(as advised pre op by the hospital)Post op recovery is longer with conventional surgery apparently.
What could be improved
COMMUNICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I really need to hang around for so long?
Could I not have been told what surgery had been performed before I left?
Anything else?
Its things like this that make all the difference!
COME ON KINGS MILL YOU CAN DO BETTER THAN THIS!!!!!!
