"Well done to all the staff"

About: Wrightington Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son age 26 years went in to Wrightington hospital for his hip replacement surgery. The care and attention he got was second to none and a big thank your to everyone concerned.

The only concern / complaint I have is that he was the only patient being administered pain relief (morphine) via a syringe driver, I felt that he should have been the first patient to be attended to on the drug round. Unfortunately this was not the case and during his stay he had to wait until all the other patients had been given there medication before he was attended to. This meant that his syringe driver had finished and he was without pain relief. If this practice could be changed for the next time a patient is being administered pain relief this way that will be a great improvement.

Other than that congratulations and well done to all the staff on the ward for their excellent nursing and support care!

Thank you for your posting regarding your son’s positive experience; I hope he is recovering well following his surgery. It is always good to hear when we get things right. The Head of Nursing at Wrightington Hospital has advised me that he will pass your kind comments on to all staff.

It is also important that when we do not get things right that we learn lessons to ensure that we improve care for future patients, and I am sorry to hear of the concerns about your son’s pain relief. The Head of Nursing at Wrightington Hospital, will be undertaking an investigation into the issues you have raised. He has also indicated that he would welcome the opportunity to discuss your son’s experience further, and also provide you with an explanation of what happened and what has been done to put it right. If you find this acceptable please get in touch.
