Having recently experienced ten days of absolutely appalling care at N.M.G.H. (see review), soon after returning home, I was unfortunately taken very ill again with a serious infection. I chose not to return to N.M.G.H. but to go to Royal Oldham A & E department. This proved to be an outright success from the moment I entered the hospital. I was seen within five minutes of registering and attended to immediately by caring and efficient staff. I was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Medical staff worked together co-operatively, including me in their discussions. I was admitted to the Triage ward and from there, transferred to Ward T5. What a very different experience in every way; the ward was well-run, organisation was excellent, and the service was effortless and seamless. Staff were pleasant, caring, attentive, willing to meet all my needs, constantly asking if they could help and listening patiently to my concerns. The environment was bright and cheerful and the ward was kept spotlessly clean. Procedures were carried out with minimum interruption and put off if patients were not ready. Nothing was forgotten and staff were professional at all times providing a patient-centred service. To ensure no cross-infection occurred, great attention was given to hygiene procedures which were carried out diligently. The medical treatment I received was holistic. I have several medical conditions which cause me severe pain. The doctor visited me every day, taking all my conditions into consideration. When discussing the infection for which I had been admitted, it was fully explained, monitored and treated, and pain relief was excellently managed. Discharge procedures were carried out smoothly. The whole time I was there I was treated as an individual, and given the respect older people are entitled to. I came home feeling stress free and well on the way to recovery. Overall my stay in the hospital was excellent. Thank you very much.
