"Thank goodness for this fine hosptal"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

I was admitted on the 22nd April 2014 as an emergency having contracted septic arthritis. I spent time in intensive care, high dependency ward and finally on the orthopaedic ward T7 a total of 47 days. At one point after early admission my family were sent for as I was apparently close to death. The team of doctors, nurses and other allied staff worked extremely hard to save me and eventually I pulled through because of their fantastic skills. All the staff were brilliant with lots of good humoured banter and care. I can only say that if this hospital is representative of our NHS we should be immensely proud and fortunate. The nursing was of a high standard and the doctors were friendly and pleasant with none of the arrogance sometimes attached to such people. Special thanks to my consultant who sat my wife down, made a cup of tea, comforted her and explained my illness whilst I was unconscious during the early days of my horrendous situation. And of course special thanks to the many nurses, physiotherapists and other staff who were so caring and kind. When I returned home a friend came to visit me and told me his brother had suffered a heart attack whilst on holiday in Germany. He went on to say how impressive the German hospital was and finished by saying his brother wouldn't have received such good treatment in our NHS. I was happy to correct him and informed him of the wonderful treatment I received at Oldham Royal Hospital Thanks again to all - you are terrific!
