"Minor Operation By A Hospital Phobic"

About: Newark Hospital

As above. I was due for a minor dermatology operation. I was new to the area and am very anxious about hospitals. Above this usual level of anxiety, I am being treated for depression and anxiety. I was not looking forward to this. The directions were concise, if a little optimistic. (It takes a little longer to walk than is stated on the official directions.) However, I was greeted warmly by the volunteers on arriving, directed to my ward for examination and was seen promptly. On my return for the operation, again I was directed by the volunteers (a wonderful concept, ladies - if they will forgive me - of a certain age who man the help desk as you walk in) and reassured immediately by the ward nurse. Believing credit should be given where it is due, my operation was on the Minster Ward on 19th May at 11.45. Please pass on my commendations to all concerned. I was operated on by the consultant. Every step of the operation was explained to me and I was relaxed and reassured. IA few laughs were even shared along the way. A wonderful experience. I was treated as an individual, without judgement and felt valued and relaxed. I cannot recommend the hospital and staff enough. For anyone feeling anxious, please do not worry. You are in very safe hands.
