"Effective Discharge Procedure"

About: Wythenshawe Hospital

Please can you lead the way in the NHS by altering your policy on discharge medication. I spent 4 hours today waiting on a ward with my 84yr old mother for her discharge medication which consisted of one tablet to be take twice a day for two days. This was medication widely available from pharmacies so why not just write a presciption i could have picked them up on my way home and the argument (given by staff)of paying for a presciption holds no water when compared to your parking fees and my travelling from Sheffield to pick her up to avoid using NHS overstretched transport services. This is a problem throughout the NHS every hospital appears to struggle with this, if a drug is specialised or not widely available then use the hospital pharmacy but for normal everyday prescription drugs have a ward script pad that a doctor can complete or at least give the patient the option of doing this as an alternative to such inefficiency.
