I was admitted to Wensleydale Ward on 23/5/14 for THR the following day. I was greeted by friendly and professional staff who quickly settled me onto the ward. I was kept well informed during my admission and was given many opportunities to ask questions about my care and procedure. I went to theatre on Saturday afternoon and had my surgery under a spinal anaesthetic I was nervous about this but all the ward and theatre staff were very supportive and helped me thru the whole procedure. I would wholly recommend a spinal. I didn't have any problems, was comfortable and felt well cared for and safe during the surgery. On return to the ward I was greeted with a nice cup of tea, something to eat and lots of nurses checking my level of pain (zero on return), bp and general well being. They worked hard to maintain my comfort and dignity during my stay and could not do enough to ensure I remained as pain free as possible. The physiotherapists has me up and walking the next day. I was discharged on the following Tuesday. At no point did I feel unhappy with my care. The whole team worked very closely together with all departments and with myself. I would highly recommend Harrogate District General to my friends and family and if I ever need to be in hospital again despite the very long drive from Lincoln to Harrogate, I would choose HDG without hesitation. Personal thanks to Wensleydale Ward, jolly porters, everyone in X-ray, the very efficient cleaning crew, kitchens for the lovely food, physios for making me get moving, theatre staff ( hope you enjoyed my selection of music and finally the doctor and his fab team for doing such a wonderful job with my wretched hip. Sorry if I've forgotten anybody.
