"Jessops maternity wing"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital

I have birth to my son last august at jessops. From arrival it took over an hour to be taken to the delivery suite and be examined, by then I was 4cm. The labour was fairly straight forward but I did need a doctor for delivery but wasn't kept informed what was happening and why I needed the doctor etc. I was then kept in the delivery suit for nearly 7 hours as there wasn't a bed available on the ward. When I was told to move the staff who transferred me were quite rude and my husband had to leave there and then. I was then 'dumped' on the ward at about 6am in the morning with no idea where anything was or where any of the midwives were, it was about half an hour before anyone came to see me. I was set on breastfeeding but the support I received was very poor. The breastfeeding support workers made the rounds on the wards and spent all of 2 mins with me and after telling me I was 'getting the hang of it' I later saw in my notes (once I had returned home) that they had wrote there was no improvement and my son was still not feeding properly. That night the staff told me to let them know when I was going to feed my son and they would come and help me. Each time (3 times through the night) I called a midwife they came and told me they would come next time and in the end no one helped me. The next day they said they had been too busy that night! At the time I didn't realise the poor service I received and this was the reason why my son had to be admitted to barnsley hospital a few days after returning home because he lost too much weight. Now I realise that the service I received was very poor which is why I have written this review now. I think that jessops is far too busy to provide the high level of service it is reputed to have and I know of several other people with similar experiences.
