I have always had respect for the staff at Wythenshawe hospital. Something has radically gone wrong with the care here though. Patients needs are put last. I have recently had a total knee replacement here and I felt let down by treatment I received. I had to wait 6 half hours in 2 waiting rooms on hard chairs before I was taken for the surgery. I was tired, full of pain and felt ill at ease. The waiting for surgery room was dismal and scruffy. We were treated like cattle and there was an air of foreboding in the room. I assumed I would get intraveinous anesthetic but was gassed. It was a horrid feeling. I woke up with the horrors! I was terrified. Then was dumped on the ward and left. I was given the paracetamol I had taken in myself and had to really mither for additional pain relief. The same battle everyday, I was left in agony for hours. Medication was late most mornings and even missed on one. The surgeons were lovely and came to my rescue about pain relief, but that only lasted the one day. Same performance the next... crying out for pain relief. To top it all when I was discharged I was sent home with the same paracetamol I had taken in, no other meds for pain!! I was told to go to my docs on the Monday to ask them for some. Bearing in mind I was deemed house bound! The treatment seemed to be from a horror film. I had a high temp but the nurses just piled extra blankets on because I was freezing. You really do have to speak out to survive in the place! It's a wonder the wards aren't rife with germs as the floors are mopped and swept with the same foam mop thing. My stay was horrendous! I'm still in agony too till monday... I was released Saturday afternoon
