I'm not sure where to start the praise. From my very first visit last July 2013 I was treated with respect and kindness. I met the consultant to discuss my knee replacements. I was given a date in November but unfortunately 3 days before went down with shingles so had to cancel. Then at the end of November fell over and broke my right shoulder, so had to cancel again the appointment given me for January. The staff in charge of the appointments was so kind to me because I felt dreadful to have had to cancel twice. My pre-op nurse listened to all of my queries and fears and dealt with them in a professional manner. Eventually I came in for my first partial knee replacement on February 18th 2014 and was seen beforehand by both the anaesthetist and consultant. I came in for my second partial knee replacement on 26th May, I was phoned and offered a cancellation almost 2 weeks early. 2 days notice and no time to panic! Great. Again both the anaesthetist and the consultant came to see me before the op and explained what the procedure would entail, the second knee being a little bit more involved.. Both knees were day surgery but I did stay in overnight after the second one.[bit wobbly!!] The nursing staff who cared for me overnight and on the next morning were fantastic and at no time did I feel frightened. Oh, and a lovely breakfast on Sunday morning! The physiotherapy department spent time with me to ensure that I understood and could do the exercises to strengthen my knees. Undoubtedly the star of the team was my consultant. I was so lucky to have such an experienced and skilful surgeon to mend my crumbling knees, which I will now do everything in my power to look after. He has given me back quality and the ability to achieve my aim which was to walk pain free in the countryside I love. The hospital is welcoming and friendly and I so appreciate the treatment I have received and what an incredible experience for an NHS patient. Thank you everyone. Ann Hall
