"Too old to play football"

About: Furness General Hospital

I am an ex pat Daltonian, living in Norwich. At Easter I was visiting relatives and decided to go for a game of 5 a side football. At 52, perhaps I should have declined the offer to play with Dalton firemen and other far younger players, but you know what it's like, sometimes you've just got to go for it. Any way to cut a long story ....I turned a bit too fast, slipped and my wrist and forearm took the full weight of my 14 or so stone. The result was a dinner fork fracture that required that required 3 pins. The treatment I received at FGH was excellent. The surgeon did a fine job. When my care was transferred to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital, the consultant remarked while studying the X-rays, on the quality of the surgery. I had the cast and my pins removed on Friday and again the consultant complemented the quality of the surgery, and added that it was unlikely that there would be any further problems. With some physiotherapy I am expected to make a full recovery. I would just like to thank the doctor and his team for an excellent job. I will be up again soon but don't take it personally, if I say I would rather not be spending the weekend in their company. Many thanks George Steele-Atkinson
